This year’s reflection

30 Dec

The year 2013, as stated in the previous blog, was a year of challenges and become new things… But the changers were pleasant. The incidents in the year 2012 have affected my life in 2013, but I promised myself first to let things go. That was the key to the pleasant feeling of experiences in 2013. I taught myself not to hold on to that what has happened in the past year, but to let it go or leave things for what they are. I must say I’ve succeeded in it! Firstly, I myself reconcile to the fact that I will end up in a new environment and living in it will change. That was not easy, but I finally succeeded.

Besides the move in April, there are two special people who came into my life and I love them very much. One of them came with turbulence. On May 26, 2013, my ‘wonder’ niece, Archini, born. Her birth has changed our lives. Suddenly I felt responsible as a parent for a child. What a nice feeling. You have already concluded that it immediately clicked between us. In August I went to Holland to visit her. From the airport on , we were inseparable. I enjoyed every moment with her. Each day was remarkable and worth discussing. Now my ‘moshimoshi’, this is how I call her, is almost 7 months old. And who knows, she’ll visit me in the new year.

Then unexpectedly another special person came in my life and who’s also brought a lot of positive changes in my life. This story will be continued…. no end expected. Each day with this person is a new chapter in life!

Lovecake

In November I started with a course which is a follow-up and that should last two years. And with this new course the hectic life for at least a year has begun. Actually, I’m still not sure if it will put an end to the busy life of mine. I barely get the time to load pictures on my Flickr blog. But with this blog I’ll place some pictures taken by me this year are shot .

2014 will also be the year of a new home again…Actually, I am tired of moving and I hope this will be the last time in life.. A lot more is going to happen…

Archini's hand and feet.

According to the hindu tradition, these black beads are for protection against the evil eye.

According to the Chinese calendar, we are about to enter the year of the horse. I’ve read that more people will follow their dreams and their heart. That is certainly a good sign . Even I am going to follow my dreams and heart in the new year. That is my only new year’s resolution!

In Rijksmuseum, Amsterdan

During my holiday in Europe, I visited Rijksmuseum which’s reopened its doors this year. It has a great collection of Mediterraneanand Asian sculptures and artwork.

Berlin is a great city which is worth to visit. A mix of history, culture, liveliness, action, but also a modern lifestyle.

In Paris

This was the third time of visiting Paris with the Euro Disney as the big attraction. Euro Disney is so not for me!

Poems

3 Feb

The first month of 2013 went fast. Or should I say that I didn’t have much time. Life still goes on.

While packing my personal stuff, I discovered in a small notebook some poems. I probably wrote those poems when I was in love or brokenhearted. It’s so high school material. But I kept them. I have an own diary in which I write the poems or notes when I want to express something. So my ‘newly discovered’ poems are now in my personal diary.

While going trough the diaries, I read my poems again. I think I started writing these poems when I’s in the 2nd year of high school.  But I’ve never been that artistic with words. No rhymes for me. Bad at it. But, I let the pen go when my heart is filled with emotions.

Because the diary is now in the box, I can’t share one of my poems today. But I am going to share a love poem which is close to my heart. Btw, it’s a Shakespearean Love Sonnet:

O Mistress mine

              O Mistress mine, where are you roaming?

O, stay and hear; your true love’s coming,

That can sing both high and low:

Trip no further, pretty sweeting;

Journeys end in lovers meeting,

Every wise man’s son doth know.

What is love? ‘Tis not hereafter;

Present mirth hath present laughter;

What’s to come is still unsure:

In delay there lies not plenty;

Then, come kiss me, sweet and twenty,

Youth’s a stuff will not endure.

” Three things cannot be long hidden: the sun, the moon and the truth.”
These are the words of Buddha who inspired me this year.

It’s was not an easy year for me, but I’ve learned a lot from it.  I’ve always been excited when the new year is coming closer. How bad it may have been, for the new year, I’m always hopeful and optimistic.

Every year, I make a list of things I want to do in the new year. I call it the Law of Actions. But this will be the first time in many years, I am not going to make this list, because I already know that 2013 will be the year of many changes. I’ve also mentioned those expected changes in my previous blog. Because I feel more will change, I will not make my list “Law of Actions”. A few months ao, I finally started working out, but not regularly. In the new year I will try to go more often. I will also try to get me to fit into the school system. I am quite demanding and then have high expectations, but unfortunately that doesn’t work. The last I will try to do, because I’m naturally demanding.

In 2013 I’ll leave it for what it will be and will also try to get the best of it.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! <3,

Saoto Soup in tha house!

3 Jul

saoto

It was just a few Sundays ago that I made the well known “ Saoto soup” myself. Two weeks in advance I prepared to really make this dish! I went on the internet to look for information, I went over cookbooks and asked experts for their ”special” recipes. As I am not too familiar with cooking – as yet – , this was a great challenge to try and prepare this delicious dish.. Mom never helped me out – although she can be easily called ‘the expert’, so I was really on my own with this!
Well…, after a great Saturday night I woke up this Sunday morning, all enthusiastic to just…GO for it and prepare this… –d e l i c i o u s – soup…

For those who don’t know what’s Saoto Soup: Its original name is Soto Ayam which is a chicken – soup dish originally from Java, Indonesia, but with a typical Surinamese touch; it is served in every warung (Indonesian restaurant) in Suriname.  According to taste, Saoto is usually served with some other dishes liked shredded potatoes, fried Chinese vermicelli. Soato is as any other Surinamese dish, tangy and spicy and if you like, add the sambal (very hot Cayenne – pepper condiment); but only for those who dare!

I have to say.. my very own version tasted well!! I almost spent two hours in the kitchen making my Saoto soup, and it was mom who helped me after all baking all the ingredients. She just can’t trust me having me around in her kitchen.. that is!! She had to help me looking for the right the herbs as I’m not an Kitchen- Herbalist (every Surinamese cook is an herbalist to me!) . I did prepare the soup, the greatest challenge of this dish, on my own! Finally, I was done with my very first Saoto soup.. Yummy! Did I miss something? Oh yes, the m u s t, – a boiled egg- !
