#Reverb10: My life 2010

  Holi 2010

My 2010 … It’s still 2010. December is actually the month of 2010 which I call the best for doing things.
In the past 11 months, I haven’t been very active. From the end of 2009, I have  focused a lot on completing my education (teacher training where I’ve studied history). It was important to write my thesis and passing my literature exam. Today I will submit  the final product of my thesis in order to do a presentation. Yet the period in which I have done my research for the my thesis, has been very instructive. Then I learned a lot about timing. I also met new people and have often heard inside stories.

On the other hand, I haven’t seen my friends much. I saw my best friend on my sisters wedding day after so many months. Hope to see them often in 2011.

All year, my family and I were busy with preparing my sisters wedding. This has not been easy. But the marriage is one of the highlights of this year.

Something new this year?
Yes, I learned a bit working with Adobe CS5. Before this,  I was definitely a type of digibetes  and couldn’t work with digi-things. I’ve taken lots of pictures that I finally lost due to power failure during my absence. I lost my collection of this year. I so freaking hate that!

The year’s not been so boring because I’ve never seen so many places in Suriname in my life as this year. Yes, the visits were new to me and it’s worth. So I have visited the resort and adventure center of Berg en Dal, Sranang Watra, Stuwmmeer and Stone Island. It was fantastic to “discover” another beautiful spot in Suriname. I have also participated in the Scott Kelby Photo walk for the second time  and then I got to know new people. I wasn’t really satisfied with the picture of the photo walk but I enjoyed walking trough the old streets of Paramaribo.

Although I haven’t written much articles in 2010 for Parbode, the magazine for which I write since I was 18, I wrote a few articles for De Ware Tijd, a famous Surinamese newspaper, wrote. I’ve missed writing a lot because I got little time. But I’ve been writing blogs as much I can (but didn’t post a lot), writing in my diary and also wrote many emails daily (!!). Almost every day I had something to write about. This year I had little inspiration for writing articles for a magazine, but I was inspired to write poems. So there are many new poems in my personal ‘diary’ for poems.

2010 was also a year of maintaining relationships with family members. Since I think family life is important, it was also necessary to maintain them. I can’t say anything about my love life.

I forgot to mention something else. A week ago I started a course for nail techs. I’ve always wanted to do this course so this was my chance to do it. Btw, it was gifted by my parents.

In order to complete my education, I have sacrificed a lot of things, but to me, the year 2010 was also nice for  me. What are my plans for the new year? I’m not planning much but I want to realize the few goals of 2011.  Firstly, I want my to continue in a better way with my work as a freelance journalist. At least once a month I want to submit an article. It’s not much, but at least more than the previous year. Getting a masters degree in history is another aim for 2011 but this one depends on the situation itself. There are not much specialists to start with a new course, so maybe the next school year. And the last aim is to buy a new camera. It must be something in de the EOS series of Canon… (any tips???).

Kruithuis---- Angalampoe Valentine's Day

It’s already time to say goodbye to 2010 and  cheers to a New Year and another chance for us to get it right (Oprah Winfrey).

We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called "Opportunity" and its first chapter is New Year’s Day (Edith Lovejoy Pierce).

One love,

Wonderful images and narrative Kavita. Suggestions for a Canon? The new 60D is out.. or the 7D. I have an XSi so that would be my own step up. Just not sure which. Good luck to you in 2011!

A fine series from your walk. When you get back to your friends, the real ones will welcome you back like you were never gone. The education is worth a great deal to your future as a master’s would be. I admire you determination to write an article a month. All the best to a wonderful future!
